Cliffe Enterprise has provided independent print management since 1991, working across commercial, public-sector, education, transport and publishing requirements.

Over that period, our awarded work has included universities and colleges, local authorities, transport operators, emergency services, NHS organisations, purchasing consortia and private-sector organisations throughout the UK.

The organisations listed on this page form part of Cliffe Enterprise’s historical record of awarded print and print-management work.

They should not be interpreted as a list of current clients or current contracts.

What the record demonstrates is the breadth of print requirements Cliffe has managed and the sectors in which our independent print-management model has been applied.

More Than Three Decades of Print Management

Cliffe Enterprise was established in 1991.

Our role is to understand the print requirement, determine an appropriate production route and coordinate specialist manufacturing, finishing, mailing, fulfilment and distribution resources according to the project.

That approach has been applied to requirements ranging from brochures, catalogues and prospectuses through to publications, promotional print, direct mail and complex transport-information programmes.

Some projects have involved relatively conventional commercial print.

Others have required high volumes, multiple versions, tightly controlled schedules, stock management or distribution to large numbers of destinations.

Public-Sector Print Experience

A significant part of Cliffe Enterprise’s historical work has involved local authorities and other public-sector organisations.

Awarded work recorded by Cliffe includes:

  • Hampshire County Council
  • Cumbria County Council
  • Oxford City Council
  • Portsmouth City Council
  • Test Valley Borough Council

Public-sector print can involve formal procurement, defined specifications, service requirements, fixed deadlines and complex distribution.

Cliffe’s historical record across local government demonstrates experience of working within those requirements rather than simply producing isolated print jobs.

Education Print Experience

Cliffe’s historical awarded work also includes further- and higher-education organisations.

These include:

  • University of East Anglia
  • University College London
  • Cornwall College
  • University of Greenwich

Education requirements can include prospectuses, course information, promotional publications, direct mail and other recruitment or institutional material.

Our independent model allows the production route to be selected around the quantity, specification, schedule and distribution requirement of each project.

Rail, Bus and Transport Print Experience

Transport has formed an important part of Cliffe Enterprise’s historical print-management experience.

Our recorded awarded work includes organisations such as:

  • Southern Trains
  • Midland Trains
  • Southeastern Trains
  • Govia Thameslink Railway
  • Go-Ahead Group
  • Brighton & Hove Bus Company
  • Metrobus
  • Wilts & Dorset Bus Company
  • Go North East
  • Southern Vectis
  • Go South Coast
  • Oxford Bus Company

Our wider documented transport experience includes timetable production and distribution for Network SouthCentral, Network SouthEast and South West Trains.

One major timetable programme involved producing more than 3.1 million rail and bus timetables in eight days, followed by distribution to 212 stations throughout the South and Midlands within three days.

Projects of that nature demonstrate why production and logistics often need to be considered together.

High volume alone is not the complete requirement.

Capacity, multiple versions, packing, allocation, deadlines and final distribution can all determine the appropriate production solution.

Emergency Services and NHS Experience

Cliffe’s historical awarded work includes:

  • Hampshire Police Authority
  • Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services
  • Scarborough & North East Yorkshire NHS

These organisations form part of the wider public-sector experience represented in Cliffe’s historical contract record.

Purchasing and Procurement Organisations

Cliffe’s historical awarded work also includes purchasing and procurement organisations such as:

  • Crescent Purchasing Consortium
  • Eastern Shires Purchasing Organisation

Frameworks and purchasing arrangements can require competitive procurement alongside consistent service, quality and operational performance.

Experience in this environment complements Cliffe’s direct work with individual public-sector and commercial organisations.

What This Experience Means for Clients Today

Historical client names matter only if the experience behind them remains relevant.

For Cliffe, the recurring themes across these projects are:

  • understanding the complete print requirement;
  • selecting an appropriate manufacturing route;
  • managing specialist suppliers;
  • controlling specification and cost;
  • coordinating multiple products or versions;
  • working to fixed deadlines;
  • managing stock and fulfilment; and
  • arranging delivery and multi-address distribution.

Those principles remain central to our print-management model today.

Technology, printing equipment and communication channels have changed substantially since Cliffe Enterprise was established in 1991.

The underlying procurement question has not:

What is the most appropriate way to produce and deliver this particular requirement?

Because Cliffe is independent, the answer does not have to be determined by the equipment installed in one manufacturing plant.

From Print Specification to Distribution

Cliffe’s role can extend beyond obtaining a manufacturing price.

Depending on the requirement, we can coordinate:

  • specification development;
  • production-route selection;
  • manufacturing procurement;
  • paper and material selection;
  • artwork and proofing;
  • specialist finishing;
  • production management;
  • stock management;
  • print fulfilment;
  • mailing; and
  • UK or international distribution.

Not every project needs every service.

The model is designed to adapt to the requirement rather than force every client through the same process.

Documented Long-Term Client Relationships

Individual contract awards provide one type of evidence.

Long-term relationships provide another.

Cliffe’s documented client history includes Leeds Castle Enterprises Limited, which recorded using Cliffe’s print-management service from October 1999.

The relationship included material specification, cost control, stock management and distribution across a substantial annual print requirement.

This type of long-term work demonstrates another aspect of independent print management: the ability to review recurring requirements over time rather than treating every piece of print as an isolated transaction.

Why Cliffe Uses an Independent Print-Management Model

A manufacturing printer necessarily has to consider whether a requirement fits the equipment available within its production operation.

Cliffe approaches the decision differently.

We establish what needs to be produced, in what quantity, to what specification, within what schedule and with what fulfilment or distribution requirement.

We can then select manufacturing capability suited to that requirement.

For clients with varied print requirements, this can mean different products following different production routes rather than everything being forced through the same manufacturing environment.

It also means the specification itself can be reviewed before procurement where changes to format, pagination, paper, quantity or production method may improve efficiency.

Print Management Experience Since 1991

More than three decades of print management has exposed Cliffe Enterprise to a wide range of products, manufacturing methods, procurement environments and distribution requirements.

Our historical awarded-contract record provides evidence of that breadth.

Today, the same experience supports our work across commercial print, publications, brochures, catalogues, prospectuses, print fulfilment and specialist print-management requirements.

The principle remains the same:

Understand the requirement first. Then determine how and where it should be produced.

Talk to Cliffe About Your Print Requirement

If you have a defined print specification, we can assess the appropriate production route and provide a quotation.

If the specification is still being developed, involving us earlier gives us the opportunity to review quantity, format, paper, production method, finishing, fulfilment and distribution before those decisions are fixed.
